UFOs are strange, flickering objects that are sometimes seen in the game. They can be seen in the skies of the Sky Garden and on the Martian Summit as an event.

Overview[]

The UFOs are never seen in great detail, as they are usually spotted from far away, so they are often represented through a small cluster of moving pixels. Their sprite appears to depict them as spinning. They are similar to the Severed Heads and the Falling Men in how they seem to appear from the sky out of nowhere.

Sky Garden[]

In the Sky Garden, one of them merely buzzes around, being watched by the Maussan Bros. Its movement can range from small hovering motions to extremely quick zips across the skyline. It is unaffected by any effects.

Mars[]

After crash-landing on Mars, there is a hill that Madotsuki can go up. Upon standing on the hill's summit, there appears to be nothing except a hole that can be entered with the Midget effect to see Mars-san. However, after using the Cat effect at the top of the hill, there is a 1 in 4 chance that a UFO will appear. The UFOs appear to spin and fly to the scene at different speeds, which is much more noticeable when multiple UFOs can be observed there.

The player can continue to meow with the Cat effect to make more appear, though they will stop appearing after 35 attempts.

Trivia[]

  • In the files of the game, they share the same file name with the Severed Heads: UFO.

  • Though the UFOs are never seen up-close, the player is able to enter a spaceship which flies through space upon entering its main room and crashes onto Mars during an event.

Interpretation[]

It's possible that the inclusion of UFOs in Madotsuki's dreams may relate to her mindset. Since UFOs and aliens are commonly associated with outer space, it could mean Madotsuki wants to explore or go into the outside world again, though she can't or won't exit her room no matter how many times the player attempts to leave. Their inclusion may also be because Madotsuki feels "alien" to the world and thus secluded herself in her room.

Some believe that the inclusion of UFOs, as well as the game's strange visuals and alien-like characters, are due to an actual alien invasion or event that happened on Earth, leading to Madotsuki staying in her room to protect herself. However, this theory is often debated by fans.
